March 13, 2011 was the day. I was so nervous about what the weather was going to do for my sister’s wedding.  I knew I would be taking the outdoor pictures right around noon, which is not necessarily the ideal time.  So, I was hoping for overcast.  But, it was supposed to rain/snow which I did not want, so I was hoping for dry.  Guess what?  I won.  Overcast and dry.  And not altogether unpleasantly cold.  Why am I talking about the weather?  Because if I think about the wonderfulness of that day, the beautiful ceremony, my gorgeous sister and my new brother who so obviously loves her, I just get all choked up.  And nobody wants to read that.

The trouble with spring weddings is this: they require winter engagement pictures.  And the problem with winter engagement pictures is this: I live and work in Utah.  And the problem with living in Utah and taking engagement pictures in the winter can be summed up in one word.  C.O.L.D.   Not my cup of tea. Born and raised primarily in Southern California, I’ve been in Utah for the past 14 years and still have not acclimated to the cold weather.  But, that’s where a sense of adventure comes in, don’t you think?  We got really lucky for this shoot, it was supposed to be windy and rainy.  It wasn’t rainy. And wind just makes things memorable, right?

When I left home for college, back in 1996, my baby sister was, um, I think 7 years old.   Now she’s not.  She’s a little older.  And she’s getting married.  I feel so privileged to be able to take her engagement and wedding photos.  You would think it would be  less pressure to take pictures of your own family, but somehow, when it comes down to engagement/wedding photos, I think I feel more.  I mean, if I mess them up, I have to live with her wrath  🙂  Really, I bet she would forgive me, she’s pretty awesome.  And this boy she’s marrying?  We like him a lot.  We took pictures on two different days, and both of them were quite chilly.

What an amazing day for this little family to be sealed.  Middle of the day bright and sunny, but we did our best.3c1c4c2c

My oldest niece got married last month.  Thus the trip to Sacramento.  She got married on Dec. 28th. My 14th wedding anniversary.  What a wonderful experience to be able to be a part of their wedding on my anniversary.  It brought back so many memories. (All good ;))  She was a beautiful bride and I wish them all the happiness in the world.  Because they live in California, I wasn’t able to be their photographer.  Their wedding day was rainy and cold (same as mine), so it was a good thing they had done most of their bridals the month before.  So, not very many pictures taken on the day of, but I was able to snap off a couple quick ones just for fun.
